THE CITY C0 1°ISSIOra OF TIC CITY CF PORT ANGELES DOES ORDAIN as follows:
Section 1. Definitions. The following words and phrases wherever used in
this ordinance, shall have the meaning in this section ascribed to them:
(a) y "farmer" .means any person or partnership chiefly engaged in pro-
ducing agricultural products on whose farm the number of cattle, calves, sheep,
11 or character of the agricultural products produced thereon, but does not mean any
12 (person or partnership engaged in producing agricultural products who

(2) Actively engages, directly or indirectly in conducting a business
15 which includes the slaughter of cattle, calves, sheep, lambs, swine, or goats for
food purposes; or
16
(1) Actively engages in buying or trading in cattle, calves, sheep,
lambs, swine, or goats; or
(3) Actively engages, directly or indirectly, in buying or selling meat
17 for meat food products other than those prepared by any farmer on the farm; or

(4) Actively engages, directly or indirectly, in salting, curing, or
;canning meat, or in preparing sausage, lard, or other meat food products; or

111 (5) Slaughters, or permits any person to slaughter, on his or their
20 jfarm, any cattle, calves, sheep, lambs, swine, which are not actually owned by him
or them.
21 Section 2. The city meat inspector shall include the inspector appointed by
22 the City Commission for inspecting meat or meat products, and his duly authorized
23 =deputy or deputies appointed by him with the approval of the City Commission.

24 f Section 3. It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, offer for sale, or

expose for sale for human consumption, within the corporate limits of the City of
26 Port .uageles, any meat, whether raw, pickled, or spoked, or any products thereof,
27 +unless such meat or the products thereof, has been inspected, stamped and certified
28 !as to its fitness for human food by an authorized inspector of the Bureau of ,,nimal
29
Industry U.S. Departwent of agriculture, or by an approved Veterinary Inspector of
30 the State of Washington, as provided by the rules and regulations of the :Tashington
31 !State Board of Health, or by the City Meat Inspector.

Section 4. The City Commission of the City of Port Angeles shall appoint a
2 1 city meat inspector, who shall have or shall establish an office in the City of
3 1 Port Angeles without expense or cost to the City of Port Angeles for such office
4 , or the maintenance thereof, whose duty it shall be to crake post mortem examinations!
5 . of calves after payment of the fee for such inspection established in this ordin-
6 ante, when such calves are the property of and are presented to hire for inspection
7 I by farmers, as defined herein; and providing further, that all carcasses presented
to the city meat inspector for inspection shall have the(hearattached to the body
9 I and the heart, lungs and liver of calves held in place in the carcass by their
10 v natural body attachments. The said inspector shall refuse to inspect any car -
fcasses which are the property of, or are presented by persons other than farmers

12 lkas defined herein.

Section 5. The City of Port r.ngeles shall provide the city meat inspector
14 with an appropriate stann, which shall be impressed in ink on all carcasses in-
15
spatted and approved by the city meat inspector.
16 . Section 6. The city meat inspector shall give official receipts for all in-
17 ;spection fees collected for such inspections, and shall deliver said fees to the
18 ;City Treasurer of the City of Port Angeles at least once each week. The city meat

Iinspector shall collect for each inspection prior to inspection of the carcass or
(carcasses. The salary of the city meat inspector shall be fixed by the City
21 1Commission but shall not exceed the amount collected by the said inspector for said
22 linspections.
23 4 Section 7. tiny person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of the
24 (ordinance, shall be deemed guilty of {misdemeanor; and shall be punished by a fine
25 Fof not to exceed "100.00 or by imprisonment in the city jail not exceeding thirty
26 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

Section 8. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty days from
28 and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
