HomeMy WebLinkAbout1701• ORDINANCE NO. /714/ AN ORDINANCE providing for local organization for Civil Defense, and granting powers necessary to cope with wars or peacetime catastrophes or disasters threaten- ing life and property in the City of Port Angeles. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES as follows: Section 1. The County of Clallam and City of Port Angeles Civil Defense Plan is hereby approved. This plan provides for an integrated City - County organization for Civil Defense and for operations during periods of emergency, and thereby constitutes the most effective and efficient means of meeting the Civil De- fense needs of the City of Port Angeles and its citizens, by making maximum use of the existing agencies and capabilities of local government within Clallam County, supported by volunteers and non- governmental personnel and resources, to prevent or minimize loss of life and property that could be caused by enemy attack or other catastrophe of disaster affecting the City of Port Angeles, the Mayor of the City of Port Angeles is hereby authorized to approve such revisions of said Civil Defense Plan as may be made, from time to time, if he deems the revisions to be reasonably necessary to meet the Civil Defense needs of the City of Port Angeles and its citizens. Section 2. The Mayor of the City of Port Angeles and the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners of Clallam County shall, during periods of emergency caused by enemy attack or other catastrophe or disaster affecting the City of Port Angeles, jointly direct and control the operations of the City - County organ- ization for Civil Defense established in said Civil Defense Plan. The Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to take, during such periods of emergency, such actions as are reasonably necessary to prevent or minimize loss of life and property, in cooperation with said Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners and the Civil Defense Director of Clallam County.
