IV LEGISLATION
1. RESOLUTION: TUMWATER BRIDGE PROJECT
Approximately one year ago the Urban Arterial Board ranked the
Tumwater Bridge No. 1 on their list of structures which deserve
state funding assistance for replacement. The bridge, Public
Works Director Flodstrom explained, suffers from various struc-
tural defects and could be replaced with a 28 foot wide structure,
curb to curb, with a 6 foot wide sidewalk on the west side. Cost
of this replacement would be approximately $700,000, with UAn
funding 90%, or $630,000, and the City funding lO%, or $70,000.
However, the UAn has indicated they want the City to construct
a 40 foot wide structure at an additional cost to the City of
approximately $300 - 400,000. The Public Works Department, Mr.
Flodstrom stated, feels that a 40 foot structure is unnecessary,
since 5th Street would also require widening, and the additional
cost of a wider structure is not justified; therefore, he will
be seeking funding for a 28 foot wide replacement structure.
Following Mr. Flodstrom's presentation, Mayor Haguewood introduced
and read by title Resolution No. 4-79 entitled,
Resolution No. 4-79
A RESOLUTION of the city Council of the City
of Port Angeles indicating the City's need
and support for rebuilding the Tumwater Street
Bridge.
Councilman Hordyk moved the Council adopt the foregoing Resolution
as read by title by Mayor Haguewood. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Boardman and carried.
2. PROCLAMATION: PRAYER DAY
Councilman Duncan moved the Council approve the PROCLAMATION as read
by Mayor Haguewood, proclaiming Thursday, January 18, 1979 from 7:30
P.M. to Friday, January 19, 1979 at 8:00 P.M. as a day of prayer to
seek God's guidance in the matter of the local pulp and Paperworkers
strike. The motion was seconded by Councilman Buck and carried.
