Proceedings of the City Commission of the City of Port Angeles, Washington

The Commission met in regular session at 10 a.m. and was called to order by Mayor
Davis. Roll call showed the follo~ing officers present. Mayor Davis,Commissioners Beam
and Filion,Attorney Plummer and Clerk Hawkins.
The minutes of the previous session were read and approved.
Under the head of applications for licenses the following was granted,-
Royal Taxi
5-passenger car

The Liability and Property Damage insurance policy of the Royal Taxi'was approved as to
form by the City Attorney.
Under the head of unfinished business the following resolution was introduced.
RESOLUTIOH DESIGNATING TAXI STAND
Be It Resolved By The City Commission Of The City Of Port Angeles As Follows,-
VIHEREAS the owner and occupant of the property abutting on the fOllowing described str,eet 1
area has ~onsented to the use of a certain portion of street area abutting his property
as.a taxi stand, and
VIHEREAS, the taxi stand previously occupying said area has discontinued business and
the same is now unassigned,
Bi IT THEREFORE RESOLVED That the following area be and it is hereby fixed as a stand
for a taxi operated by Joe Biery,and known as "Royal Taxi",to wit:
25 ft. along the curb immediately in front of the east half of Lot 7, Block l,Tidelands
of.Port Angeles east of Laurel street.
That the rights of all other persons and companies to said area is hereby cancelled.
This resolution is adopted in conformity with the authority and provissions of Section
15,Ordinance No.960,of the City of Port Angeles.
it was moved by Mayor Davis that the foregoing resolution be adopted. Seconded by
Commissioner Filion. On roll call all members voted aye.The Mayor declared the motion
carried.
Under the head of Reading and Passage of Ordinances the following Ordinance was read
by 'Title and placed on its Third reading,-
An Ordinance relating to the rates and service charges for the use of water supplied by
the city; amending Sections 14 and 40 of Ordinance 778 as said sections are amended and
modified by Ordinance 976; and providing for and declaring an emergency.
It was moved by Commissioner Beam that the foregoing Ordinance be placed on its final
passage and adopted. Seconded by Commissioner Filion. On roll call all members voted
aye. The Mayor declared the motion oarried.
The Commission examined and allowed the following olaims and ordered warrants drawn

Under the Head of New Business the following ,Memorial was introduced,-
MEMORIAL OF THE CITY COMMISSIOH
OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES; \7ASHIIlGTOIl.
To the Honorable Ways and ],leans Committee of the
House of Representatives of the United States of America:
We, Your Memorialists,the City Commission of the City of Port Angeles,Washington,most
respectfully represent and petition your Honorable Body as follows;
VIHEREAS,the industries of this region,Oonsisting of pulp,paper and lumber mills,dairies
and salmon oanneries,normal1y employing over three thousand men,have been forced to reduo
their operations to such an extent that less than nine hundred men are employed,and
\7KEREAS,a very large part of this shrinkage in employment is due to the fact that our
factories are faced with ruinous competition from SWeden,Finland and Canada in the pulp
and paper and lumber industry,from Japan in the fishery industry,and from Denmark and
Hew Zealand in the dairy industry,al1 made possible by the depreciated currencies of
these nations.
WHEREAS,it appears that the present H.R.13999,commonly known as the "Depreoiated
Currency Bill",now before your Bommittee, is designed to and will remedy this abnormal
condition,and

WHEREAS,upon the passage of this or similar legislation,it is believed that many of
our local factories,paper and pulp mills will almost immediately resume operations and
absorb a considerable portion of the unemployed in this locality.
NOW, THEREFORE , Your Meffiorialistsdo most earnestly petition Your Honorable Body to at
once take action upon the House Resolution 13999 above referred to and to report it to the
House of Representatives with recommendation for its immediate passage at the present
session of Congress.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this memorial be sent to the Chairman and Secretary of the
Ways and Means Committee of the House of Representatives in Washington,D.C.,and the
,copies thereof be forwarded to Congressmen S.B.Hill and Lin.H.Hadley,members of said
Committee.
It was moved by Mayor Davis that the foregoing Memorial be adopted. Seconded by
Commissioner Beam. On roll call all members voted aye. The Mayor declared the motion
carried.
There being no fUrther business the Commission then adjourned.
