The City Council met in special session at 7=30 P.M., and was called to order by Mqor Smith. Officers present were: Mqor Smith, Councilmen Brown, Neer, Sandison, Powell, Wolfe and McFadden, Manager Vergeer and Clerk Law. Under the Head of unfinished business, bic!s to fur* pipe for the water dept.,~ened at the previoue meeting, all having been checked and tabulated, were considered. Manager Vergeer advised that due to past experience, longer life of the pipe, <i.elivery, and cost of inlltallation, in his opinion it is to advantage c!f the City to purchase cast iron pipe as. offered, by the Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. Mr. Vergeer so recommended that, bid. be awarded. . I Stan Norman and Mr. Rossi, represantati ves of Johns-Manville Sales Corp., cited merits and advantages of asbestos cement pipe. Also W. A. Thorsen spoke for Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. lInd their products. After further questions and discussion, it was moved by. Councilman Brown that the bid be awarded to Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. There was no 2d to the motion. and. the wame \~as withdrawn. It was then moved by Councilman McFadden that the offer by Johns.:.Manville Corp. t6 furnish 3500' 6f 8. asbestos cement pipe at $2.10 be accepted. Motion seconded by Councilman \~olfe. All members. voted Aye. Mction carried. ' Pursuant to calls .for bids published for construction of arterial streets and storm sewers, the following were received and opened: PiELEB CONSTRUCTION CO., Seattle, $6,42,374.48 FIORITO BROS., Seattl~, $~,843.oo PETER. KIE\I'IT SONS CO., 'Longtj:ll1f, $695,167.37 NORTHWEST CONSTRUCTION CO., Seattle, $690,220.02 GOETZ AND BRENNAN,.Seattle, $658,945.89 WUIS ELTERICH co. 8< DEL GUZZI BROS., a . joint venture, $820,060.64 The ~or declared a recess while the Engineering Dept. checked and tabulated the bids of Pieler Construct- ion Co. and Fiorito Bros. to ascertain if the same ,were correct and according to specifications. After completion of said tabulation, the meeting re-convened for furtber consideration. Manager Vergeer then recommended that the contract be awarded to the Pieler Construction Co. and that the. bid by Fiorito Bros. be held until it is determined as to whether or not the Pieler Construction Co. is fully qualified to complete the contract. It was moved by Councilman McFadden that the recommendation be accepted and bid awarded as recommellided. Seconded by .councilman Wolf'e. On roll call all members voted qe.
