Lemon City Council Port Angeles Homer Frazier Sequim Citizen Jeff Pomeranz Port Angeles City Manager Becky Upton Port Angeles City Clerk · Dorothy Duncan, Chair of the Board of Glallam County Commissioners, explained the Commissioners had been meeting in joint session with the Port Angeles City Council for the purpose of discussing matters of common interest and concern. Identified as the top priority was the matter of economic development. This particular meeting was called to join together all interested parties in a forum for discussion of economic issues. It was intended that each organization spokesperson would identify current activities, strengths, and weaknesses. The following represents commentaries submitted. V.C.B. (Tourism People) News Bureau - One-Stop Shopping Point - Training - Better Coordination of Services - Good Support from City and County WEAKNESSES - Not everyone coordinated - Staff limitations - Sales - Requests for service - Limited "properties" to market; i.e., loans We don't meet as a whole What may be some of the next steps, to address some of the road-blocks that have been identified? Coordinate with Jefferson County Management audit of organizations involved with economic development Form action committees Identify end-product Don't create work Coordinate efforts and priorities What has to happen now and what do we want in the future Promote ourselves Need vision and goals, tools, of future - find common ground Invite Kitsap County people to explain their effort Include: PUD School Districts/College Transportation (CTS) Port Angeles Downtown Association Telephone Co. Exchange current plans - Have representatives from Kitsap (Seaside, Benton) County explain their plans. Invite people who came today and others identified - Look at model and expertise -6- 1863 JOINT CITY/COUNTY MEETING March 7, 1991 ACTION! Develop proposals for more effective management and coordination of those efforts. After discussion of action items, Judith St. Claire of the EDC offered to contact representatives of Kitsap County to schedule a meeting to hear how they resolved certain similar issues as identified today. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 P.M. CC.210 -7- 1864 CITY COUNCIL MEETING March 5, 1991 ADDENDUM Councilman Cornell added: "After discussion consensus was also reached that the recreation center and the pickleball court would be included in the area shown as Lot 4."
