HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 03/16/1949 [530 Proceedings of the City Commission of the City of Port Angeles, Washington March 16, 19~ Harry Andrew appeared regarding previous request for permit to operate dine and dance room at the Dew Drop Inn. It was moved by Connnissioner Robinson that Mr. Andrew be permitted to operate a dine and dance room. Seconded by Mayor Feeley. Commissioner Taylor did not vote. The motion carried. Under the head of new wsiness, a property owner on West 16th Street requested information regarding changing of lots to acre plots. There was no decision, pending Attorney's Oplll1.on. Donald Maynard informed! that drainage from the Fair Ground terminates on his property, which makes useless about ten lots. The ' ,complaint was referred to the Engineer's department. :Frank lindsay requested permission for the American Legion to sponsor Ziegler Shows from May 23rd to 28th. Permission to sponsor was granted by the Connnission. ,Attorney Severyns spoke before the Commission regarding purchase of timber on City owned property at the ,lower Elwha by Elmer Critchfield. It was the opinion of the Commission that the timber should be cruiSed, a minimum price set, and advertised. The matter was filed for consideration. The Commission discussed application for water connection to the Morse Creek main line at Craig Avenue and Porter Street by the Bonneville Power Administration. Commissioner Taylor informed that under present circumstances, there is ample supply for service requested, but owing to the condition of the line, no definite decision could be made immediately. After due consideration it was moved by Commissioner Robinson' that the Administration be advised that the Gity is willing to enter into a suitable contract. Motion secondad by Commissioner Taylor. All voted Aye. Motion carried. Attorney Johnston, representing A. Contesti, who holds a mortgage against the Yellow Cab Company, argued the right to change the name of Yellow Cab Company to Rex's Radio Cabs during foreclosure proceedings, and recommended that, the Commission reject application of Rex's Radio Cab for taxi license. Attorney Severyns, representing Rex Oakes, argued the right to refuse license to Rex's Radio Cab, the change of name having been previously authorized. The Commission was not inclined to deprive any citizen a livelihood, even though their bus:lness is in litigation. It was moved and seconded that on recommendation of Chief Ide, the application for license be rejected. After further discussion and consideration, the motion was with- drawn, and it was moved by Mayor Feeley that the license be issued in the name of Yellow Cab Company and that Mr. Oakes be permitted to operate in the name of Rex's Radio Cabs until court action is concluded. Motion seconded by Commissioner Robinson. All voted Aye. Motion carried.
