~t was moved by Councilman Mcfadden that the minutes of the. previous meeting be approved as received.
Seconded by Councilmah Powell.and unanimouslJ" carried.
~nder the head of unfinished business, bids for purchase of a truck and packer body for the Sanitation
Department, as previouslJ" received and opened, were reconsidered. The City Manager having fUed tabulations
~nd recommendations, it was moved by Councilman Wolfe that the bid by Ruddell Olds Cadillac, Inc., to
furnish International truck with G8.1' 'iood packer body, 16 cu. yd. capacity, at.$S,686.35 be accepted.
Motion seconded by Councilman Brown. All members voted Aye. Motion carried.

Pursuant to notices published, bids for construction of concrete pavement and stonn sewers onR.R. Avenue and
Lincoln, Laurel, and Oak Streets l{orth of Front Street,. were received as follows: Fieler Construction Co.,
1'$53,871.36. Tom McCorkle Construc~ion Co., $68,344.57. Aft. er checking and tabulation of the bids by the
Engineering Department, it was moved by Councilman McFadden that the bid by Pieler Construction C om~
be accepted. Secon:ied by Councilman Brown. All voted Aye. Motion carried. .
lOne bid was received from Pacific States Cast'Iron Pipe'Company to furnish 1:0001 of Class 150, 'cement lined
cast iron mechanical joint.iron pipe for the Water pepartment. Amount of bid was $1.99 per foot,. It was
moved by Councilman Brown that the bid be accepted.. Seconded by, Councilman Sandison and unanimouslJ"

IThe Council considered claims paid June 8, in. total amount of $36,547.02. It was moved by Councilman Bra-.m
Ithat the claims be' approved as paid. Seconded by Counc~lman Pow.ell. ~ voted ~e. Moj;ion carried.
IThe following claims to be paid from "1953 Street Improvement Construction Fund" were submitted for approval

Under the head of new business, a petition signed by property owners was filed, requesting that parking
hogulations be established and enforoed on Eighth. Street between Lincoln and Laurel Streets. Atter disouss-
ion am due consideration, l\nager Vergeer recomm.ended that that part of Lincoln Street to Eighth Street
not now covered by parking regulations, excepting the parking area in front of the Court House, be establish-
ed and posted as two-hour parking zone. Also Eighth Street from Lincoln Street to Laurel Street. It was I
inoved by Councilman Sandison that the recommendation, be accepted.. Secomed by Councilman NeBr and unanimous-

Transfer of beverage license was requested as follOlW: Babe's Tavern. - Catherine D. and Herbert R. Burns to
IHaIlr:r F. Gunselus and Robert F. Reiner. It was move4 by Councilman Bra-.m that the request for transfer
be approved. Seconded by Councilman Sandison. All voted ll;ve. Motion carried.
The monthlJ" budget reports of , receipts and disb~ements, "for the city departments, also the City Treasurer's
report for the month of May were filed for Council.' s Consideration. It was moved by Councilman Brown that
the reports be approved andplaced on file.. Seoonded by Councilman l{olfe and carried.

'Manager Vergeer reported receipt of complaints from .residents on Valley Street conoerning rocks and debris
!dropped or thrown 1:rom the 8th Street Bridge. Also cited hazard o.f such.pz:acUce and damage being done.

'Mr. Vergeer informed that a meeting concerning Puget Sound bridge construction is amnounced for August 11,
lat the Chamber of COIIlIllerce building in Seattle.. Also ,remimed that work ~dll begin after JulJ" 1 on the
[budget for year- 1954 and cited possibility of providing for construction of n6\'1 water reservoir in the ~
budget. .
There being no further business, the meeting was declared adjourned.
