The Commission met in regular session at 10:00 A.M. and was called to order by Mayor Beetle. Roll call
showed the following officers present: Ma;yor Beetle, Commissioners Beam and Lim, Attorney Conniff and
Clerk Hawkins,
The minutes of the previous session were read and approved.
Under the head of Applications for Building ~ermits the following was granted:
Ray Porter, Remodel House, Lot 5, Block 379, Townsite 1600.00
Under the head of Reading and Passage of Ordinances the following Ordinace was read by title and placed on
its third reading and adopted:
~.N ORDINANCE relating to regulating and licensing the business of distributing am exhibiting for use and
play certain amusement devices and automatic music playing machines; fixing license fees and prescribing
penalties; and repealing Ordinance No. 1047.
It was moved by Mayor beetle that the foregoing ordinance be placed on its final readi.ng and adopted.
Seconded by Commissioner Beam. On roll call all mer.:bers voted aye. The llayor declared the motion
carried.

printing for the year ending June 30, 1941, one bid wes on file as follows:

Pursuant to published call, we .gubrrJ.t the following as .our bid on the City Printing for the year 1940-1941:1
Seven cents (7~) per nonpareil line, single column mcasure. Tabulated matter also at seven cents
(7n per line, single col\lJ:l1l measure, for each insertion unless published only onet:iJn~, in which I
case the rate ~~ll be twelve cents (12~) per line, single column measure.
We will file a good and sufficient bond in the event of our bid being accepted.

prir.ting be accepted and that the ~~'o;, and City Clerk be instructed to sign a contract with them upon j
the filing of a bond approved by the City "ttorney. Seconded b,' !,~ayor Beetle. On roll call all members
voted aye. The Mayor declared the motion carried.
Under the head of New Business:
H. B. Molchoir and A. H. Larrabee appeared before the Commission and asked that the 4th of July celebratio
be held under the auspices of the American Legion. It was moved ~. Co~~issioner Lind that the 4th of July
celebration be held under the auspices of the l~erican Legion and that all concessions and other matters
affecting the use of the streets be arranged with and under the control of the City Engineer and the Chief
of Police. Seconded by I.la,'or Beetle. On roll call all members voted aye. The A~yor declared the motion
carried.
H. B. 1:01choir requested the use of the Ilthletic Playfield for 1:.'1" lihamber of COll1~erce on the evening of
July 8, 1940, for a nation ~~de Radio Hook-up sponsoring "Buy Washington Products." It was moved by
Comnissioner Lind that the above request !Je granted. Seconded by Mayor Beetle. On roll call all members
voted aye. The ~ayor declared the motion carried.
COIll!1issioner Lind sulnitted the name of A. T. Sandison as a member of the Park Board to fill the vacancy
oaused by Marya M. Gibbs, a member of the Park Board, moving to Florida. It was moved by Commissioner
Beam that the fore[;oing appointment be confirmed. Seconded by Mayor Beetle. On roll call all members
voted aye. 'fhe Mayor declared the motion carriad.

Under the head of Introduction of Resolutions the following resolution was introduced:
RESOLUTION
~'YHEREAS, The City Commission of the City of Port Angeles being min:lful and appreciative of the importance
and value of adequate Parks and Playficlds and their dcvelopment as far as t.he financc available for the
purpose will permit, in oder that the citizens of the City, both adults and children, may enjoy the
benefits of the Parks and Playficlds to the fullest extent, end
WHEREAS, The Port Angeles Recreational Council, The Port Angeles Garden Clllb and the Linooln Heights
Garden Club are each particularly interested in the develoIJllent and beautifying of Parks and providing
and developing Playfields throughout the City for children, and the advice of the members of the above
na'lled organizations ns weU~ as the advice of any other citizen of the City concerning the development,
maintenance and management of the Parks and Playfields of the City, is welcomed and appreciated by the
City Commission, and
WHEREAS, The City Commission believes that it v/Quld be right and proper that an Advisory Board of three
members should be created to work in an advisory capacity with the Park Board in the development, main-
tenance and operation of Parks and Playfields.

members: One to be nominated by the Port iAngeles
Club and one by the Lincoln Heights Garden Club.

Comissioncr Beam. On roll call all members voted aye. The !layor declared the motion carried.
The Commiosion then adjournedto meet Seturday, June 29, 1940, at 10:00 A.M.
