The purpose of the meeting was to review the City I s financial status and consider 1984 goals and objectives. II ROLL CALL Members Present: Mayor Duncan, Councilmen Gerberding, Haguewood, Hordyk, Polhamus, Quast, Whidden. Members Absent: None. Staff Present: Manager Flodstrom, Attorney Knutson, P. Carr, L. Cosens, D. Frizzell, L. Glenn, J. Pittis, R. Orton, M. Campbell. public Present: S. Fahnestock. III LEGISLATION 1. Contents of Work Session. The Council and staff reviewed the City's Financial Status Report for the first six months of 1983. Expenditures Manager Flodstrom noted that the City has expended between 44% and 49% of the 1983 budget. He voiced concern regarding medical claims for retired LEOFF I employees, stating that expenditures may double what was anticipated. Finance Director Orton informed Council that as of July 1, 1983, the Wash- ington Public Employees' Retirement System increased employer contribution rates. This increase will cost an additional $24,000 this year. Revenues Council reviewed and discussed 1983 revenue to date. Goals and Objectives Council reviewed the status of 1983 Goals and Objectives, and discussed tentative goals and objectives for 1984. Some tentative goals were estab- lished in the area of community development and public safety. During discussion on public safety, Councilman Gerberding moved to send a letter to the School Board, urging them to better educate students in defensive driving, bicycle safety, and crosswalk safety.
