The City Council mat in regular session at 7:30 P.M. and was called to order by ~or' Smith. Roll call of
officers showed the follo~1ing prel;lent: ~or Smith, Councilmen Brown, Neer, Sandison, Hatthieu, Wolfe
and l~cFadden, City Manager Vergeer, ~ttorney Severyns and Clerk Law.
It was moved by Councilman Matthieu that minutes of the previous session be approved. Seconded by
Councilman Brown and carried.
Under the head of unfinished business, the following p~ estimates were approved for payment:
Albino Casilio, 3d and final estimate, L.l.D. No. 168., Georgiana St., sidewalks, curbs, gutters,
_ $3,593.94
It was moved by Councilman Wolfe that final estimate be approved and paid. Seconded by, Councilman Sandison.
All voted Aye. Motion carried.

It was moved by Councilman Wolfe that the foregoing Pa,y estimate be approved and warrants issued on L.l.0.
m.. 167 Construction Fund in p~ment of same, and the City Clerk authorized to issue warrants numbered
329 to and including 342 for $1,000.00 each, and warrant no. 343 in amount of $577.00,. in aggregrate
amount of $14,577.00 on the L.l.0 No. 167 Fund, bearing interest at the rate of 3 3/1[/, per annum, and
dated August 9, 1955, to suppJ,y the necessary funds to be deposited in the L.l.D. No. 167 Construction Fund.

.captain Olsborg appeared on behalf of the Paget Sound Pilot I s Association, citing accomplishments
,barge removal, acquiring ten year lease on portion of tideland, and agreement with Owens Brothers to remove
:barge within ten days. Manager Vergeer recommended that if barge is not removed within fifteen d~ period,
'the Council take legal action of ejection against the Association. It was moved by Councilman Brol<11 that
reoommendation be approved. Seconded by Councilman Sandison. All voted Aye. Motion carried.

Under the heali of new-business, claims paid July 20,25, 26, August 1, 5 were approved in total amount of
$67,031.03. It was moved by Councilman Brown that claims be approved as paid. Seconded by Councilman
Sandison and carried.

It was moved by Councilman' McFadden that report of the Police Department for July be approved and placed
on file. Secondedby Councilman Brown. All voted Aye. Motion . carried.

?ouncil considered petition requesting that improvement district be established for installation of sidewalks
curbs,' gutters and drainage on Caroline Street from Uashington to Ennis Street. It appears that if drainage'i
is considered in the District, the area from Front to ,'Iater Sts. and Race to Ennis Sts., must be included. '
The Engineer will be consulted regarding cost .of the project and a resolution prepared fixing date of
hearing, also circular letters mailed to each property owner effected informing of intention.

Requests for transfer of beverage licenses were received as follows:

Four property owners in Evans Subdivision appeared Before the Council requesting that error in platting
,of their property be corrected. It appears that lots are only forty-six feet wide instead of the fifty
i feet as platted. It was moved by, Councilman Brown that the Manager be directed to investigate and make
:any corrections necessary. Seconded by Councilman Sandison. All voted Aye. Motion carried. .
Icoun011 considered a request for Del Guz;i Brothers for pre1.i.rninary replat of four blocks l'lest of M St. and i
south of Eighth Street to Tenth Street. The Planning Commission having recommended approval of the pre-
'liminary replat, it was moved by Councilman Wolfe that recommendation be accepted and request for prelimin-
iary replat approved. Seconded by . Councilman .Sandison and carried.
jThe Planning Commission having recommended improvement of Second Street from Valley Street to A street by
:installation of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, it was moved by Councilman Wolfe that a resolution of intent-
'ion be prepared fixing date of hearing for the proposed improvement. Motion carried.

Council discussed briefly budget items to be included in the 1956 budget for improvement of I Street Hill
'and Fifth and Peabody fill. It was decided that if possible, these items should be included.

J'lr. Vergeer disp~ed sketch of proposed remodeling program for the 6ity Building. After discuss,ion,
ICouncil authorized that call for bids be published for t he alterations, bids to be opened September 1.
