M., the following Officers present: Mayor Richardson, Councilmen Smith, Sandison, Maxfield, Thorne, and Caldwell. IPursuant to Statutes governing and notices published, the public hearing on the City 8udget for the year 1960 was opened. khe Manager advised that requests and informati9n were received from departments as quired, the preliminary budget prepared and submitted to the Council as provided by Statutes. re- The Mayor then declared the meeting open for comments. I.' ,Police Chief Kochanek showed tabulation illustrating wage schedules of Industries, State ~ ,Patrol and Local Police Department. Also discontinuation of longevity as depriving three ~~ipatrolman of any. salary increase to which all should be entitled according to cost of IliVing. I'Charles Dryke spoke for the Street Department and requested that salaries be restored to amounts as first submitted by that Department. :Harold Thompson Mnd Ronald Johnson appeared for the Fire Department asking that the per- Icentage and longevity schedule be continued. Also increased uniform replacement allowance, with provisions for spending when required. ' Patrolman Loucks cited certain Patrolmen as getting no salary increase and considered this unfair as all are subject to cost of living. ,After due consideration, the following Ordinance was introduced and read: I ORDINANCE NO. 1441 I AN ORDINANCE approving and adopting the budget of the City . ' of Port Angeles for the fiscal year 1960. It was moved by Councilman Caldwell that the foregoing Ordinance be adopted. Seconded by Councilman Maxfield and carried. Councilman Thorne expressed regret that each and every Department Head was not heard from prior to this meeting. The Manager described preparation of the Budget, citing changes made necessary by re- duction in assessed valuation and anticipated tax receipts.
