HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-93 RESOLUTION NO. 2-93 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Port Angeles, Washington, providing for the observance of Martin Luther King Day. WHEREAS, the third Monday of January has been designated as legal holiday by the Washington State Legislature for the purpose f celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther King, ~r.; and WHEREAS, the current labor agreements between the city and [ts employees do not provide for a paid holiday on the third Monday )f January; however, the City Council is committed to negotiating change in the city's labor agreements so that Martin Luther King Day will be a paid holiday for all City employees in lieu of one of the two "floating" holidays to which City employees are entitled; and WHEREAS, until such a change in the City's labor agreements may be negotiated, it is the policy of the City Council that Martin Luther King Day be otherwise appropriately celebrated as a holiday in the City of Port Angeles; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Angeles as follows: Section 1. In recognition of Martin Luther King Day, all City facilities shall be closed to the public on the third Monday of January. City employees will be entitled and are encouraged to use one of their "floating" holidays to observe Martin Luther King Day.
