RESOLUTION NO. 5"'- 10 0 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Port Angeles requesting the 1961 Washington State legis- lature to appropriate funds for the extension of Front Street from the East limits of the City of Port Angeles to U. S. Highway 101. WHEREAS, the City of Port Angeles is a city of the second class, having a population of approximately 11,800 persons and is, as shown by an origin and destination survey conducted by the Washington State Department of Highways, the '. terminus of 95% of the traffic moving in a Westerly direction across the Northern end of the Olympic Peninsula; and WHEREAS, there presently exists only one entrance and exit into the principal portion of the City of Port Angeles from the East; and WHEREAS, a blockage of U. S. Highway 101 entering Port Angeles from the East would create a dangerous situation both from a fire protection problem and evacuation problemJ and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Angeles has agreed to extend Front Street over ground of difficult topography to the East City limits and is in need of help from the State of Washington in extending said street to U. S. High- way 101 at a point East of the City limits1 now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES that it requests the 1961 session of the Washington State legislature to appropriate and make available to the Washington State Department of Highways sufficient funds to extend Front Street from the East City limits of the City of Port Angeles to U. S. Highway 101 at a point East of the City and to construct the necessary tie-in with U. S. Highway 101. e . /!..! PASSED by the City Council this day of Septem- ber, 1960. " ,"->' ~. ...,.
