HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-69 . tt RESOLUTION NO. 5-69 WHEREAS, in recent years there has been a marked increase in the distri- bution of various beverages sold in glass bottles marked "no deposit, no return, " and WHEREAS, since the advent of "no deposit, no return" bottles, it appears there has been a marked increase in the number of broken bottles and broken glass upon public streets, alleys, sidewalks, parks, and public places, as well as upon private property in the State of Washington, and WHEREAS, the circumstance of such broken glass upon the public streets, sidewalks, parks, and ways has increased the exposure of injury to children and their pets playing in such areas and has resulted in a substantial increase in expense to municipalities in disposing of said debris, and WHEREAS I it appears to the Council of the City of Port Angeles that the problem created is one which should be resolved on a statewide basis inasmuch as it is impracticable for any individual municipality or government to attempt to restrain or prohibit the utilizing of such containers; Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES That the Council of the City of Port Angeles does jointly request with other city councils and governing bodies of local governments that the State of Wash- ington, acting by and through its duly elected legislature, adopt legislation greatly restricting or prohibiting the use of "no deposit, no returnll glass bottles within the State of Washington.
