HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-82 RESOLUTION NO. I 9 - ? 2- A RESOLUTION of the City of Port Angeles establishing procedures for the use of the City's back-up ambulance. WHEREAS, the private ambulance company licensed to do . business in Port Angeles, Olympic Ambulance Service, has only one ambulance stationed in Port Angeles, to serve both Port Angeles and the nearby portions of Clallam County; and WHEREAS, this ambulance is often occupied in responding to emergency calls in Port Angeles or Clallam County, when there is a second emergency call from within the City of Port Angeles; and WHEREAS, this existing ambulance service becomes inade- quate.when this second emergency call is received while the ambulance is otherwise occupied; and WHEREAS, the City Council determined that it was necessary for the Port Angeles Fire,Department to acquire a back- up ambulance to provide ambulance service to the citizens of the City of ~Drt Angeles to ease this inadequacy, and the Port Angeles Fire Department has now acquired that vehicle; and I . WHEREAS, operating procedures are necessary for this back-up ambulance, to assure that the city does not compete with Olympic Ambulance Service or any ot~er private ambulance company I which may operate an ambulance in the City of Port Angeles; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT , ANGELES, as follows: Section 1. The Port Angeles Fire Department will respond with its ambulance to emergency calls for medical assistance withir the city limits of Port Angeles only when notified by the Port Angeles Consolidated Dispatch Center that a private ambulance is not available to respond to~a particular emergency call. e e .. Section 2. Communications between the Port Angeles Consoli- dated Dispatch Center and Olympic Ambulance Service, or any other ambulance service locating in Port ~ngeles, will be established to the degree necessary to assure that the City's ambulance is I not dispatched on a call to which the private ambulance company can respond. Section 3. When in service as an Aid unit at General Alarms, or serving as a first aid station at Civic Events, the City's ambulance will not be used as a pat~ent transport'vehicle unless notified by Port Angeles Consolidated Dispatch that no private ambulance is available for patient transportation. Section 4. The City's ambulance shall not be used in any capacity other than as a back-up vehicle for emergency calls. Section 5. The fee for a response to an emergency call by the City's amublance shall be Fifty-nine and 95/100 Dollars ($59.95). Section 6. This resolution is'passed pursuant to RCW 35A.ll.020, incorporating RCW 35.24.306. Section 7. This resolution shall take effect upon adoption.
