lVHEREAS, present medical and scientific evidence shows that any
nuclear war would result in death, injury and disease on a scale unprec-
edented in human history, and
~fHEREAS, there is no effective Civil Defense against blast, thermal
and radiation effects;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Angeles urges all
federal decision makers to protect human life by defusing the current
tensions between nations and actively working for the reduction and eventual
dismantling of nuclear arsenals worldwide and that all civil and nilitary
defense plans be based on the fact that a nuclear holocaust would mean the
end of most life as we know it on this planet.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Angeles at a regular
meeting of the Council held on the 18th day of May, 1982.
