HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-94 RESOLUTION NO. 14 -94 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Port Angeles authorizing submission of a Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) Timber Grant application for expansion of the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Laboratory. WHEREAS, the North Olympic Pemnsula is designated a timber-impacted area and is also impacted by unprecedented restrictions on commercial and sport fishing; and WHEREAS, the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Lab on the Port Angeles City Pier is a valued waterfront tourism attraction with an emphasis on education and research, and is also a hub directing people to other North Olympic Peninsula attractions; and WHEREAS, the Marine Lab is currently operating at its maximum capacity and ff expanded could likely generate more tourist-related business for the area; and WHEREAS, the designation of the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary on July 10, 1994, should increase the public interest in learning more about the Olympic Coast marine environment; and WHEREAS, the City of Port Angeles is eligible to apply to the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) for a Timber Grant for qualifying projects such as a feasibility study for expanding the Marine Lab; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES that the City Manager of the City of Port Angeles is hereby authorized to submit an application to the Washington State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) Timber Grant Program requesting a CERB Timber grant to perform a Feasibility Study as Phase I of an expansion proposal for the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Laboratory; and be it further resolved, that the City Manager is authorized to execute the necessary documents to secure the grant.
