HomeMy WebLinkAbout19-89 RESOLUTION NO. 19-89 A RESOLUTION of the City of Port Angeles in support of a D.W.I. Victims Panel in C1allam County. e WHEREAS, the D.W.I. Victims Panel concept was developed by a King County Judge to provide a missing element in sen- tencing persons convicted of drunk driving; and WHEREAS, D.W.I. Victims Panels bring convicted drunk drivers into direct contact with people suffering physically and emotionally as a result of injuries caused by drunk drivers; and WHEREAS, since many drunk drivers feel "it will never happen to me" and avoid acknowledging the likelihood of getting in to an accident after drinking, the experience of attendance at a D.W.I. Victims Panel should have a positive impact; and WHEREAS, if a D.W.I. Victims Panel were available in Clallam County, attendance could be made part of the sentences for convictions of drunk driving; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES, that the Council strongly supports establishment of a D.W.I.
