HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-94 RF~OLUTION NO. 23-94 A RESOLUTION of the City of Port Angeles, Washington, supporting inteflocal cooperation agreements with other fire departments within Clallam County for an arson abatement program. WHEREAS, arson is the fastest growing crime in America, costing taxpayers millions of dollars each year in additional insurance premiums; and WHEREAS, arson related fires continue to tax the personnel and equipment of fire departments and their investigative resources, causing unnecessary exposure to death and injury to innocent citizens, firefighting and investigative personnel, damage to equipment, and prevent the use of these resources for other emergencies; and WHEREAS, no single government agency can afford to retain and train sufficient numbers of fire and arson investigators to property investigate multiple alarm incidents; and WHEREAS, a group of Clallam County fire departments have recognized the need for cooperation in an arson abatement program; and WHEREAS, Chapter 39.34 RCW authorizes local governments to enter into inteflocal cooperation agreements with other local governments or special districts to perform governmental functions and services; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Port Angeles that the City of Port Angeles supports the concept of interlocal cooperation agreements with other participating agencies of Clallam County for an arson control and prevention program to benefit the citizens of Port Angeles and Clallam County.
