RESOLUTION of the City Council of the city of
Port Angeles, Washington, authorizing
application to the Washington State Department
of Transportation for funding assistance for an
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act
project to extend the Waterfront Trail to the
end of Ediz Hook, and for the development of a
portion of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the city of Port Angeles is
~pdating its Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan, which
identifies a recreational trail on the Waterfront in parts of the
~ity and portion of Clallam County; and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Intermodal Surface
~ransportation Efficiency Act of 1991, state and federal funding
~ssistance has been authorized and made available to aid in
financing the cost of land and the construction of facilities for
~conomically efficient, environmentally sound transportation
~nhancement activities of local public bodies; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Angeles
~onsiders it in the best interest of the City to extend the Port
.~ngeles Waterfront Trail system, generally located along the inner
~ort Angeles Harbor shoreline, to the end of Ediz Hook;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Angeles
~onsiders it in the best public interest to open discussions with
the Department of Transportation regarding development of a portion
of their property east of the City generally located adjacent to
the former railroad right of way and between Morse Creek and SR 101
as a public bicycle and pedestrian trail; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Port Angeles as follows:
Section 1. The Mayor is hereby authorized to make formal
application to the Washington State Department of Transportation
for funding assistance for an Intermodal Surface Transportation
Efficiency Act project.

Section 2. Any funding assistance so received shall be
used first in the development of a 1.0 mile extension of the Port
Angeles Waterfront Trail to the end of Ediz Hook and second for the
development of the Department of Transportation property as a
)ortion of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
Section 3. The City's matching funds for the project will
~e derived from donations, in-kind services, and budget appropria-
tions from the General Fund.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become part of a formal
application to the Department of Transportation.
Section 5. Adequate notification has been given and
opportunity provided for public input.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Port Angeles at
a regular meeting of said Council held on the 4th day of August,
