A RESOLUTION recongizing and honoring
the twenty -fifth anniversary of the
ferry, COHO, for its service in Port
Angeles.
WHEREAS, in December of 1959, the 341 -foot long,
COHO, with an overall beam of 72 feet and draw of 12 feet
6 inches at calculated capacity load, cruising speed of
16 knots and driven by two 8 -foot propellers, and two main
engines, Cooper- Bessemer direct reversing diesels, was
turned over to owners, Bob and Lois Acheson, Black Ball
Transport, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, on December 29, 1959, the COHO, named
for a species of Pacific Northwest salmon, made its first
trip between Port Angeles and Victoria; and
WHEREAS, the COHO has become a part of Port Angeles
in its twenty -five years of service; and
WHEREAS, many local people as well as tourists
have come to depend on the COHO to "take them away" to
another country; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Port Angeles are proud
to have Port Angeles be home to the COHO, our link to British
Columbia in Canada; and
WHEREAS, this link has created many lasting friend-
ships with not only residents of our city, but with many
tourists taking the COHO to Victoria.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City
Council congratulates the COHO and very fine staff on twenty
five years of service and hopes to have the COHO here to
provide many more years of service. The City Council also
encourages all citizens to let the COHO know how much they
are appreciated in our community.
PASSED by the City Council at a regular meeting
on the 18th day of December, 1984.
