I CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Glass called.the meeting to order at 7:16 P.M.
II ROLL CALL
Members Present: Ted Puckett, Jim Hulett, Jerry Glass, Dave
Burns.
Members Absent: Lorraine Ross, Gary Cissel, Donna Davison.
Staff Present: Dan VanHemert, Jeff Abram.
III APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Puckett noted that he dissented on the Thunderbird
Boathouse Conditional Use Permit.
Mr. Puckett moved to approve the minutes of the March 12,
1986, meeting as amended. Mr. Hulett seconded the motion,
which passed unanimously.
IV COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
None.
V PUBLIC HEARINGS
SHORELINE MANAGEMENT PERMIT HEARING - PORT OF PORT
ANGELES. Request for a permit to allow construction of
new restroom/ laundry facilities at the Port Angeles
Boathaven. Location: 830 Boathaven Drive.
Mr. VanHemert reviewed the Department Report.
Glass opened the public hearing.
Chairman
Ken Sweeney, Port of Port Angeles Planner, presented
archi tectural drawings of the proposed restroom/ laundry.
Mr. Sweeney noted that the existing restroom would be
removed and the parking area redesigned. In response to a
question from Chairman Glass, Mr. Sweeney said there were
approximately 20 transient moorage spaces in the Boathaven.
Firefighter Abram noted that access for fire trucks to the
dock will be needed. Chairman Glass closed the public
hearing.

Mr. Burns moved to recommend approval of the Shoreline
Substantial Development Permit, citing the following
find lng":
1. The proposed restroom and laundromat facility is an
accessory use to an existing boathaven and complies
with the City1s Master Program, specifically General
Regulations C.l and C.4, Use Activity F.2.b, F.2.c, and
F.19.e.
Mr. Hulett seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
VI PLANNING REPORTS
A. Fire Department Request for Signature Approval on
'Ein~l Short Plats
Mr. Hulett moved to set a public hearing on April 23, 1986,
to amend the Short Plat Ordinance to incorporate the
signature of the Fire Chief on final short plats. Mr. Burns
seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
B. Proposed Amendment to Zoning Ordinance Regarding
Storage in Yards
After an extended discussion, Mr. Burns moved to set a
public hearing on April 23, 1986, to review the proposed
amendment to the Zoning Ordinance specifying the types of
merchandise that can be stored in yards. Mr. Hulett
seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Mr. Burns noted that the first option pYoposed by the
Planning Department is preferred.
VII PLANNING STUDIES
Mr. VanHemert reviewed proposed amendments to the permitted
signs in the Light Industrial District. The Conunission
discussed the size and height of a free-standing sign.
Mr. Puckett moved to set a public hearing on April 23/ 1986,
on an amendment to the sign provisions of the LI District,
incorporating the IS-foot height and 35 square-foot area
limitation on detached signs. Mr. Burns seconded the
motion, which passed unanimously.
VIII REPORTS OF CO}~ISSIONERS
Mr. Hulett asked that the Commission be kept abreast of the
placement of mobile homes.

Chairman Glass requested a review of attendance of Planning
Commission members, with a possible report to the City
Council.
