Old Business
St.Andrews Episcopal Church building committee, through
Dr. Brelsford, has requested that their application be deleted
from this agenda. They will notify me when they will be able
to appear for further consideration.
8th and Race Street - reznne request by Graham Ralston.
I have no further information on this request other than that
which has already been discussed.
New Business Two variance requests have been received and
properly posted for hearing at this meeting.
Ivan E. Batchelor, 817 West 12th St. has requested
a variance from the reguiations of the RS-7 zone to permit
him to enlarge a pre-existing, non-conforming, single-family,
residence by construction of an addition to the north side.
Donald Thompson, 222 Lopez, has requested a variance ' " ~.;
from the regulations of the RS-7 zone to permit him to construct ~
an attached carport closer to be property line than permitted. ~
Other Business
Mr. Chester A.Dahlberg of the Church of the First Born
has requested an extension of the Conditional Use Permit granted
them last May.
Mr. Fred Jewell has requested the city swap land with
him at 14th and Mac Donald streets. Two or three houses owned
by Mr. Jewell are situated in the 14th Street right of way and
an abutting owner proposes to build and open this portion of
14th Street.
City Council
At its regular meeting of April 21, 1970 the City Council
took the following action on Planning Commission business:
Mr.Frank Thompson - Columbia and Chambers St.- approved
as recommended.
Mr. Harvey Hussey- 10th & "A" - approved as recommended,
Mr. Jerry Steinman - 16th &lIClI - application withdrawn,
fee refunded.
Mr. William B. Dennis - Vacate ilL at 4th st - denied as
per recommendation.
As of this date, I know of nothing else coming up at this meeting.

Minutes of the Port Angeles Planning Commission meeting of April
27, 1970.

The meeting was opened at 7:35 P.M. in the Municipal Chambers.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as received.
Old Business - No old business was advanced for discussion.
New Business - Two variance requests had been received and pro-
perly posted for hearing at this time.
Mr. Ivan E. Batchelor of 817 West 12th Street had
requested a variance from the regulations of the RS-7 zone to
permit him to construct an addition to a pre-existing, non-
conforming, single-family residence. The existing structure
doe~ not meet' present front and sideyard requirements. After a
brief discussion, the members voted to recommend approval of the
request.
Mr. Donald Thompson, of 222 Lopez, had requested a
variance from the regulations of the RS-7 zone to permit the con-
struction of an attached carport with less than the required side-
yard. Following a short discussion, it was voted to recommend
approval of the request contingent upon the carport remaining
unenclosed.
Other Business
Mr. Chester A Dahlberg of the Church of the First
Born had requested an extension of the Conditional Use Permit
granted him, in May 1969, to construct a church at approximately
17th and "0" Streets in an RS-7 zone. Financial problems have
delayed the start of the proposed construction. A short discus-
sion ensued and the members voted to recommend approval of the
extension.
At the same time, Mr. Dahlberg indicated the
congregation is ready to start construction and requested per-
mission to install a trailer on the property to be used as
living quarters and watchmans shack during the construction
period. Following a discussion, members voted to recommend
this permission be granted only for the period of construction,
and to be removed no later than September 1, 1970. Mr. Dahlberg
was agreeable to this condition.
Mr. Fred Jewell, of McDonald St., had submitted a
land-swap proposal to the Planning Commission for City
consideration. Mr. Jewell owns two dwellings which are situated
in the platted right-of-way of west 14th street. An abutting
property owner proposes to build to the east of Mr. Jewell's
property and his only access would be across the portion of 14th
Street occupied by the existing structures. Members discussed
the proposal and questiorlJproblems of alignment of future streets,
utilities and unforeseeable developements such as had occured in
compareable situations elsewhere. The commission voted unanimously
to deny the request, expressing the sentiment there was insufficient
justification for the action and it was not, in their opinion, in
the best interests of the City to participate.
No other business was brought up, and following a short discussion
or proposed zoning ordinance amendments, the meeting adjouned at 8:30.
