Minutes of the regular meeting or the Port Ange~ s Planning Commission
May 17thjl 1960.
Members present were Anderson, McGee.. Re iners and Strange. .Also present
was City Engineer Warder.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Most pressing matter before the Commission is the problem of off-street
parkin~ in the downtown business area. Present at our meeting to aid
in the discussion and the probable solution were Mr. Frmnk Fountain and
Mr. Arnold Levy, members of the "Downtown Parking Association, Inc." The
Association being the present lessees of City property on the north side
of Front Street between Laurel and Lincoln Streets, being the East l/2
of L-6 and West 1/2 of L-5 Block 1, Tidelands East of Laurel Street. A
general discuBsiam followed relative to the City making improvements on
City owned ~roperty in the area known specifically as East ll2 of L-4
and West 1/2 of L-3. This property lying between the Habit Cleaners and
Harris and Schuller.

The members of the Commission felt the posibility of the City expending
any moneys for this purpose at the present time were rather remote. The
discussion then turned to the posibility of the Parking Association
acquiring the property by purchase or lease and they making the necessary
improvements. Both the members of the Planning Commission and the Parking
Assoc.ia tion .favored leasing the property at substantially the same rentals
as their preVious lease from the City. If this could be arranged, the
Association would ask that the leases on both properties be included as
one with a new date extending the lease time for a period of 25 years.
The members of the Planning Commission were favorable to this idea also.
Inasmuch as no written proposal of this type had been submitted, it was
agreed that the Parking Association would make up and submit such a
proposal to the City Council on their meeting of May 19th at which time
both members of the Parking Association and Planning Commission would be
present.
The other matter taken under consideration was the proposal of Mr. Charles
WeBster for an exchange or properties 1n the vicinity of 7th .and Liberty
Streets, expressed proposal being that Mr. Webster deed to the City
a ten foot strip on vacated Liberty Street in exchange for S## Lot 5 in
Block 279 which is owned by the City. Inasmuch as the members of the
Commission wish to familiarize themselves with the location of this
property, the matter was layed on the table until next meeting.
No further business appearing, meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
