Minutes of the regular meeting of the City of Port Angeles Planning
Commission, June 7th, l~55.
Due to the number of people present, the meeting was held in the Council
C h.ambers .
Members present were Hampton, Gort, Hankins, McGee and strange. Also
present was City Engineer Ahlvers.
Principal order of business at this meeting was the consideration of two
applications for varian6es from our 20ning ordinance.
First application considered was that of Dr. R. P. Moore requesting a
variance from First Residential Restrictions in order to allow the
reconstruction of a car port with overhead Sleeping accommodations at
705 East Caroline Street. This application is a request for a variance
from side yard restrictions and if granted would allow construction to
practically the east line of the property. A letter was read from Mr.
and Mrs. John O. Berg, owners of property at 713 Eas~ Caroline street,
stating they had no objections to the variance. During the discussion
it was pointed out that due to the proximity of the bluff in this area,
limiting the amount of building space and inasmuch as the old car port
occupied the same area as the proposed new construction, it was
unanimously agreed by the Planning Commission that they recommend to the
City Council that the application for variance be granted.
The Second application for variance considered was that of Mr. Grah~
W. Ralston to permit the building of a doctor's and/or dental office
on Lot-~, Block-290 which is at the South East corner or 9th ana Lincoln
Streets, presently included in First Residential District. There was
considerable discussion on this application brought up by property owners
of the immediate area. Among those speaking were Messrs. Horace Danser,
Toni Masi and Charles Watts who, while not offering a bonified objection,
questioned the advisabiiity of allowing the variance and asked that more
information be gathered from the applicant especially with respect to the
type of building proposed, its location on the property ete. Mr. Arnold
Levy spoke at length in favor of the application. It was finally decided
to adjourn the hearing on this application until the first meeting in
August and in the meantime, obtain more specific information from the
applicant.
Mr. Kenneth Thompson, owner of the City Motel located in the valley at
Second and Chase Streets, appeared before the commission asking for
permission, if pOSSible, to allow trailers to be parked in a few locations
in his Motel area. After considerable discussion, the Commission decided
to take the matter under advisement and to contact the Fire Chief and
others about this matter.
No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned at 9:3U P.M.
RespectTuily submitted,
