Minutes of the Port Angeles Planning Commission meeting of July 15, 1969.
Present: Hunt, McHone, Driscoll, Anderson, Building Inspector Willson.
Absent:
Dilling, Treat, Hankins
The meeting was opened in Municipal Chambers at 7:50 P. M. The minutes
of the previous meeting were approved as received.
Old Business-
I. W. Halverson of 421 S. Liberty St. was in to discuss the variance
granted him June 19, 1969. Mr. Halverson had included an erroneous measure-
ment in his original application and discovered that the set-back variance
approved was inadequate. After discussing the matter briefly, the Plan-
ning Commission approved a correction of the variance which permits con-
struction of the carport with a 14' set-back from the North margin ot
5th street instead of the 251 required in an RS-7 zone.
New Business
Mr. William B. Dennis, 213 S. Peabody, had requested a variance for
Lots 19 & 20 of Block 145 Townsite which would permit a front yard set-
back of lOt from the North right-ot-way line of west Fourth St. instead
of the 251 requir~d;. This request had been approved on two previous
occasions, but had not been acted upon before expiration of the variance.
After a bripf di.scussion, it was voted tO,recommend approval of the re-
quest with the further requirement that both lots will comprise a single
bui lding si te.
Mr. E. J. Hoff, 139 Viewcrest, had requested a Conditional Use Permit
to erect~a duplex in an RS-7 zone. Mr. Hoff's single family residence is
already situated on the property, but the land area appecrs to be about
36,200 sq. ft. After discussing the percent-of-lot coverage, setback
requirements, access and Off-street parking provisions it was determined
all requir~ments could be met. The members voted to recommend approval of
the Conditional Use Permit.
Other Business
Mr. H. H. VanBrocklin was in on behalf of the Lauridsen Estate in
regards to the building on the N.W. corner of 2nd & Lincoln Street,
formerly occupied by the Port Angeles Evening News. The inquiry centered
around the interpretation of the permitted uses in the CSD-C2 zone.
Under consideration were occupancies by a retail dress shop and a stock
room for McCrorie-Thompson furniture and appliance &ore. The commission
members were of the opinion these were allowable uses in this zone. Off
street parking is to be provided through membership in the Downtown Park-
ing Association.
Anderson Ford Company had requested a vacation of the all~yin Block
16 Puget Sound Cooperative Colony's Addition at Front and Alder Streets.

The commission instructed the secretary to request Memos from the various
City Departments} that might ~ave an interest in the alley right-of-wa~
prepared for the meeting on August 5th.
No further business was presented and the meeting adjourned at 8:20 P. M.
