Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission
July 19th, 1960.
Members present were Anderson, Hunt, McGee, Hankins and Strang$; City
Engineer John Warder and Councilmen Dalton Thorne and W. Ivor Smith. Also
present were Mr. Arnold Levy and Mr. Dale Dow.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Under unfinished business, the matter of opening up another street on the
East side of the City to give a second outlet for traffic to Highway 101
was brought up for discussion. The subject had been layed on the table at
our June 21st, 1960 meeting to be considered at this time.
A general discussion followed covering all phases of the problem. The
crossing of White1s Creek on Front Street, Third Street and Fifth Street
were considered with nearly everyone present voicing their opinion on
some p~ase of the problem. It was finally determined that the opening
of Front Street would far better serve to relieve and handle the traffic
problem that is developing on the east side of the City.
A motion was made and unanimously passed that the Planning Commission
reaffirm their action of April 14th, 1959 and recommend to the City Council
the improvement of Front Street by the installation of the necessary culvert
and fill at White's Creek to complete the project and further urge the
purchase of necessa~y property for rights of way to take care of slopes
etc. at the earliest possible time in order to secure the City against
possible increase in costs.
No further business appearing, meeting adjourned! at 9:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
