Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission
August 16, 1966.
Members present were Anderson, Dilling, Driscoll, Hankins,
Treat and Strange, also present were Director of Public Works John B.
Warder and Building Inspector Robert Willson.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
First order of business was consideration of an application
of Henry P. Hirschal for a variance from the Zoning regulations that
would permit the retention of a mobile home on his property located at
the junction of the Truck Route and Highway 101, an area recently annexed
to the City. In as much as this unit had been occupied for the past six
years and its removal would be a hardship, a motion was passed recommend-
ing to the City Council the application be approved and the owner be
granted a non-transferable permit.
Mr. Robert Scanlon was present and requested relief from the regulations
of the off street parking ordinance for a proposed building at the corner
of First and Laurel Streets. (The Old Aldwell Building Site.) Mr. Scan-
lon was advised and assured the Canmission would cooperate in any manner
possible, but that no action could be taken until a bonified request was
made setting forth the type of building proposed, its occupancy.and any
other information on which the Commission could base its action.

This meeting had been set aside fo~ study of the proposed
Zoning Ordinance. The City Council had been invited to meet with the
Commission for this purpose.
All members of the City Council, together with the City Man-
ager were present.
Advance preparations for this meeting included proposed land
use sheets showing various designations for all parts of the City together
with a temporary new Zoning Map in color that had been prepared by Robert
Willson, Building Inspector.
The study began with the first item on the sheets known as R 9
Residential and proceeded through all the various designations including
Multi-Family, Buffer, Business, e~c. and ending with Industrial, a total
of some fifteen items.
As the study progr~ssed, notations were made on any subject that
should be corrected. At the conclusion of the study, which lasted some two
hours, those present were agreed in general the designations as set up and
corrected would be acceptable to the City. The Planning Ccrnmission will
prepare the final corrected land use sheets together with a large scale
zoning map, to be used in the public hearings, which are to be held in
the near future. .

No further business appearing, meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
