Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission
September 18th, 1956.
Members present were Hankins, McGee, Hampton and Strange. Also present was
City Engineer Ahlvers.
Minutes of the prev, ious meeting weBe read and approved.
First order of business was the consideration of an application for a
zoning variance by Mr. Don Sleeper on the East 1/2 of Lot-17 and all of
Lot-18, Block 387. Mr. Sleeper being present, explained to the Commission
his plans for the improvement of the property and during the discussion
it was generally agreed by all the members that Mr. Sleeper's plans would
be a definite improvement to the area and it was unanimously passed that the;
Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the application be
granted.
Next order of business was a consideration of an application from Mr. W. c.
Adams for a zoning variance on Lots 3 & 4, Block 327 Townsite. Mr. Adams
request being for permission to move a residence now located on Lots 3 & 4
to Lot-4 which would allow a side clearance of only three feet on the west
side of Lot-4, and inasmuch as this is adjacent to the Catholic School
PIJYfield and it appearlng to the Commission that no harm would arise from
this move, it was unanimously agreed that we recommend to the City Council
that this application be granted.
Next order of business was the reconsideration of an application of Mr. Fred'
Linten of 313 East 11th Street asking for permission to add three feet on
the front of his house and inasmuch as the application for three feet would
make Mr. Linten's house in line with those in the balance of the block and
would probably generally add to the appearance of the area, it was agreed
by the members that we recommend to the Building Inspector that the
application be granted.
On the application for a vacation of Alder Street in the vicinity of 4th St.
the committee composed of Hankins, McGee and Driscoll that had been
appointed to investigate this application, ascertained during their
investigation that the request had been prompted mainly by residents of that.
area wishing to create a playfield for small children. The committee was
sympathetic to the request, but felt the City should develope a playfield
if possible inasmuch as the nearest playfield for small children is the
Erickson Playfield located far distant from this particular area and it is
the recommendation of the Planning Commission that the Park Department be
asked to lo~k into the feasibility of creating a playfield for small children'
in this area.
After general diauassion on betterments for our Community, meeting adjourned.
at 9:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
