I CALL TO ORDER
I
Chairman Lacey opened the special meet~ng of the Board of
Adjustment at 7:00 P.M.

V-85(7)16 - PORT ANGELES SCHOOL DISTRICT. Request for
reductions in the 25-foot rear yaro to 12 feet and from
the 25-foot front yard to 0 feet;and an increase in the
maximum fence height from 6 feet to 10 feet, to permit
the construction of a tennis cour~. Location: North
side of Park between Chase and Lincoln Streets.
Mr. VanHemert reviewed the Department Report and the Council
action on the Conditional Use Permit for the tennis courts.
Chairman Lacey opened the public hearing.
Don Lang, High School principal, stated that the fence would
not impede vision or traffic on Park or Chase Streets; there
would be ample parking; and he considers the site large
enough for tennis courts. Chairman Lacey asked about addi-
tional height to the 10-foot fence. Mr. Lang, the Board and
staff discussed tennis court fence heights and screening.
Mr. Lewis inquired abouthe vision triangle obstruction by
the facility. Mr. Lang, staff and the Board discussed sight
distances and modifications to the proposal. Milt Hunt, the
architect, requested clarification regarding an additional
fence height on the screening required ~y the Conditional
Use Permit. Chairman Lacey closed the public hearing.

Mr. Lewis moved to grant the variancesl reducing the 25-foot
rear yard to 12 feet, the 25-foot front yard to 0 feet,
increasing the maximum fence height from 6 feet to 14 feet,
citing the following findings:
1. The size of the project and the community needs con-
stitute special circumstances.

2. Granting the variances would not constitute special
privileges because there are no similar uses in the
vicinity and zone.
3. Granting the variances would not be detrimental to
abutting properties and the general welfare, provided:
a. The fence height around the tennis courts is 14
feet;
b. The vision obscuring material on the north fence
be limited to 10 feet;
c. Access to the parking lot immediately west of the
tennis courts be limited to the west end of the
site.
Mr. Pazan seconded the motion, which passed 3 - O.
VIII ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
