Minutes of the regular meeting of the Port Angeles Planning Commission
October 4, 1960.
Members present were Driscoll, Anderson, McGee, Hunt and Strange. Also
present was city engineer John Warder.
First order of business was the consideration of the application of the
lvlcDonald Funeral Home for a zoning re-classification from second. class
residence to first class business on Lots 16 & 17, Block 70, being the
site on which the McDonald'Funeral home is located. MrS. Vera McDonald
being present at our meeting, explained that they wished to go into an
extensive re-building program of modernization, enlargening etc. and
that the side yard restriction of five feet in second class residence
zoning would defeat their plans. After a lengthy discussion it was
decided that the chairman should contact the City Attorney and ascertain
the proper method to proceed in a matter of this kind.
Second matter to come before the Commission was the application of
Mr. Lym~n of Il07 Caroline ~treet for a variance to permit the building
of a building 20 x 20 on the alley for the purpose of carrying on an
electrical repair business. The committee of Driscoll and Reiners that
had been appointed to investigate this request reported favorable and it
was decided to set a date of hearing on the matter.

A discussion followed on the matter of sub standard houses in first
class residence areas and generally centered around the reference to
II shacklt buildings.
Mr. Warder brought up the matter of obtaining copies of plats of
surrounding areas adjacent to the City as this record would be an
advantage to the Planning Commission as well as the City Engineer.
ll1r. Warder was asked to compile a list in' order that the plats could
be purchased this year.
