Minutes of the regular meeting of the City of Port Angeles Planning
4It Commission, December 4th, 1951.
A regular meeting of the Planning Commission was held in the City
Commissioners room at the old Fire hall on December 4th, 1951. The
principal business being a discussion of the origination and destination
survey made in the City of Port Angeles by the Washington State Department:
of Highways. '
Those present were City Commissioner Taylor and Engineer Ahlvers.
Planning Commission members present were Lamoureux, Smith, Reiners and
Strange. Also present were about thirty interested citizens.
As near as possible, a thorough study was made of the traffic survey
report and all present were impressed with the thoroughness of the report
and the Planning Commission members. were especially gratified to learn
that the survey report approved and substantiated the arterial streets
as they had been proposed by the Planning Commission.
After the discussion of the report, it developed that several of the
citizens present were there for the purpose of urging the Planning
Commission to take some action in expediting a logging truck route up
Tumwater Valley to intersect with the State Highway 9-A. Several citizens'
spoke of the urgent need of this route in order to remove the hazard
of having loaded logging trucks making use of our present arterial streets.:
e
There appeared to be no objection, from anyone present, to the various
proposals that everything be done to expedite the construction of this
road as quickly as possible, thereby taking advantage of the profert
help in the road construction by various logging firms.
After an exhaustive discussion, that portion of the meeting was declared
adjourned.
The members of the Planning Commission then met with Mr. Taylor and Mr.
Ahlvers and discussed the advisability that an immediate survey be made
of the Tumwater route from which cost estimates could be obtained
which would obviousl~ place us all in a better pbsition to inteligently
approach the problem. Mr. Taylor and 1~. Ahlvers agreed that sufficient
funds were available to mwre this survey and it was further agreed that
the Planning Commission would forward a letter to the City Commissioners
urging that the survey be made.
No further business appearing, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
