Minutes of the r~gular meeting of the City of Port Angeles Planning
Commission, December 15, 1953.
Members pros~nt were Reiners, McGee; Hampton, Lamoureux, Gort and
Strange. Also present was City Building Inspector H. E. Dodge.
The first subject under discussion was the necessity of amending of
the zoning ordinance in order that it be made more operative and
clear for the guidance of the building inspactor's department. fhis
subject has been under discussion by the Commission for some time
past and Mr. Dodge pointed out the difficulty his department has in
administration and inforcement of the present code. After a thonough
discussion, it was regularly moved, seconded and passed unanimously
that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the
present zoning ordinance be amended by including therein the certain
clauses as proposed by Mr. Vergeer together with a copy of Section
2tl.2 titled "Variancestl of the Seattle Zoning Code. It was also
suggested that some provision be made in the amendment to safeguard
the City in areas that ar~ not now covered by the zoning ordinanCe,
that is to say, a blan~t classification or some other means of
control be set up to govern these areas until such time they will
b. ombraced by an amendment to th~ zoning ordinance.
The second order of business was a discussion with Mr. Reid Priast,
who was present at our meeting, of the relative merits of his
proposal to replatt certain areas of the City in the vicinity of
Sixth and Liberty Streots. An exhaustive discussion was had with
lilr. Priest on this subject and it was agreed that all members of
the Planning Commission would survey the property personally prior
to our January 5th meeting, at which time they would be in a
position to reach a final conclusion. This decision apparently
satisfied Mr. Priest who offered to cooperate in any way possible
to acquaint the membors of the Commission with his proposal.
No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned at 10:UO P.M.
