Tte:PortMgeles.firestation,.buiit in 1931;..is now;a restaurant..
Built in 1931, the elegantly designed art -deco building stood as the centerpiece of a three
building government corridor designed to be at the heart of our civic center in Port Angeles. It
provided us with our new Firehouse, Jail and City Council Chambers meeting room. Designed
by widely known Seattle architect William Aitken it was planned as a wing of a three unit city
government core.
Our old Firehouse is now the key building in creating a newly designated Port Angeles Civic
Historic District in Port Angeles. This year it is being nominated for the Washington State's
prestigious Heritage Register and the National Register of Historic Places along with the
Museum at the Carnegie and the Clallam County Courthouse. Once again our historic
Firehouse will become the pride of Port Angeles by serving the community and bringing honor
to the City of Port Angeles.

PORT ANGELES
CIVIC HISTORIC DISTRICT
FRIENDS OF THE FIREHOUSE (501 c-3)
This community supported non-profit group is in the process of working with Washington State
Department of Archaeology &. Historic Preservation to create a newly designated Historic District in
Port Angeles. This Historic District consists of the Museum at the Carnegie, the old Firehouse
building, Veterans Memorial Park and the Clallam County Courthouse. The Museum at the Carnegie
is not currently listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and would welcome this prestigious
designation.
ECONONUC DEVELOPMENT
This listing would greatly enhance tourism and public awareness of our historic buildings along
Lincoln Street, within the downtown corridor. As Port Angeles moves from a resource based economy
to more of a tourism based economy, this is exactly the kind of opportunity we welcome to add
prestige to our growing historical tourism industry. The new Historic District is within our downtown
shopping area and will bring visitors and stimulate economic activity into our downtown.
PARTNERING WITH THE CITY OF PORT ANGELES
After receipt of the new Historic District designation, we will request a Proclamation from the City
Council for a National Historic District Day in Port Angeles. We will invite our Mayor and City
Council to welcome the citizens of Port Angeles to a special day of recognition, open house and ribbon
cutting ceremony in front of 215 S. Lincoln Street. All three buildings will be open for a special day of
open house, tours, recognition and celebration of our heritage.
