The sponsorship program ie open for applications and other � grant possibilities are pending. Esplanade construction is on schedule. |<nbedu Koncz outlined the amendments made recently to the City's Fagade Improvement program which include identifying specific redevelopment districts. Iion lIu||cU indicated the 9*d may have some ability\ocontribute. Patrick Downie noted how completion of the Esplanade will spur interest in the West End Park. Chair Kidd suggested going before the County's Lodging Tux Committee to apply for funding. Other funding includes S1,P federal funding designated for the County, cities, Clu||ono 7`n*uuk, and the Pon. Maggie Roth suggested the County's Opportunity Fund ayu funding source. > Chair Kidd reported how Olympic National Park (()NP) is interested in u downtown presence but funding ' iy simply not iu their budget for expansion offacilities. Port Angeles Forward Committee Meeting Minutes for April U1, 2013 Roth ouggeged inquiring with the Department ofNatural Ropou,oce (DNR). The I7NKfu||y supported including the beach e|onncuta into the design of West End Park, however their funding has also nnot challenges. Downie suggested pursuing possibilities with certain environmental organizations and other related groups. Roth suggested asking both the Lower E|whu and Jamestown Tribes. Bicycle Tourisin/Regional Bicjwle Interest Grotm—Discussion George Bergner reported the name will be Port Angeles Likes Bikes. Work continues with the process of setting up tile all the necessary paperwork to create the organization and recruitment of 15 directors. There is already interest in an holding an event called a Bike Crawl to be planned in coordination with Victoria. Downie commended Bergner for his exceptional work and effort to create such an organization and also the work of the Black Ball /Coho Ferry to bring visitors from Victoria to Port Angeles. Bergner noted the importance of using Clallarn Transit to transport riders to different areas and sections of the community. Edwards requested the subcommittee bring u list of their goals and objectives tuP/\ Forward and ioalso determine if the City has any resources are available. Discussion continued as to the benefits of being a separate organization or perhaps instead being under the Chamber ofCommerce umbrella. Bergner responded this is uve[y specific-interest based group, it can he self-sustaining, and has an intended long-term goal of expanding 1ohennuki-couoty, and even further into the Seattle area. � Mike Edwards reviewed the event with Derek Long. SWOT onu|yyia was completed. Challenge is to engage participation from local humineaeca community. Peninsula College will offer a customer service training o|uym on May 6 and 7, 2013. Seventy |ouu| hoaineeeee will be individually invited. Additional effort will ho made<o recruit business leaders toparticipate. Cruise Ship Committee I)ovvuie reported making direct contact with the cruise company and \bo ship's captain. City Pier will be able 10 provide uppoopdo1c ship services. On-hoard entertainment will include local performers.
