Letter of Support: Patti Carman and Lorrie Campbell
Peninsula Trails Coalition wishes to lend its support to the applications of Patti Carman
and Lorrie Campbell to the Parks, Recreation & Beautification Commission,
Both applicants are members of our Board of Directors. We foresee either representative,
serving as the backup for the other so as to responsibly fulfill our request to seat 'a
member of our board of directors on the commission,
Patti has,for two years, held the Adopt-a-Trail manager's position for all of the Olympic
Discovery Trail within the City of Port Angeles—approximately five miles. She coordinates
the adopters of the Trail sections—assuring that volunteer trail maintenance activities are
completed in a safe and timely manner, deferring to the City for assistance those beyond
the capability of volunteers. She has managed numerous volunteer work crews along this
route, and has adopted a section herself.
Both applicants would bring to the commission a passion not only for the ODT, but the
entire park and rec program. They could serve as a knowledgeable conduit for open
communication between the City and the Coalition regarding trail usage, volunteer work,
City work, and general maintenance needs. As an engineer, Patti would bring a unique
skill set and know-how likely not found among the commissioners. Lorrie has a
background as a volunteer manager for both the county and now,the Land Trust. She
brings an understanding of government process and the stumbling blocks in agency-
volunteer relationships.
We strongly urge your serious consideration of Patti Carman or Lorrie Campbell to the
Parks, Recreation& Beautification Commission.
Sincerely,
A, z s:'`/
