RE: Interfaith forum on Civil Discourse--October 15—9:00 a.m. to noon—St.Andrew's Episcopal
Church,510 E. Park Ave,Port Angeles,WA
Dear Mr. Myers:
You are cordially invited to join us October 15 for an Interfaith Community forum on Civil Discourse:
How to Talk to Anyone about Anything.
The nrst hour will be our retired State Legislator Lynn Kessler, speaking on"her favorite subject"civil
discourse. Lynn has received a national award for her work in practicing civil discourse during her years
of service in Olympia. The second hour we will have a workshop,Ied by Peninsula Dispute Resolution
Center Mediators,to allow participants to practice speaking and listening to each other. The final hour
we will have an update on upcoming legislative issues by Paul Benz, co chair and lobbyist for the newly
formed statewide interfaith coalition Faith Action Network: Working for the Common Good.
We believe that problems can only be solved when we listen to one another with respect. On a daily basis
we see examples of interactions filled with belittling and derogatory behaviors. We are sure you see it too.
It is time to restore civil discourse, not only in the public arena, but also in all aspects of our community
life including our places of worship and homes. We trust this forum/workshop will inspire people to
begin that process.
This event is co-sponsored by Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, St.Andrew's Episcopal Church, Prince of
Peace Lutheran in Forks,First Presbyterian in Clallarn Bay,Dungeness Valley Lutheran in Sequim and
Congregation of Olympic B'riai Shalom.
We realize you have many obligations and time constraints, but would be delighted if you could attend
and help our community to become a better place to deal with our problems in a constructive way. In lieu
of a registration fee we are suggesting a non-obligatory donation of$10 for the event.
We hope you can join us. For more information or reservation call 452-2323.
Sincerely,
