321 East 5th Street
P.O. Box 1150
Port Angeles, WA 98362 June 2, 2014
Dear Mayor Di Guilio,
I would like to first thank you for your support for the 2014 Golden Generation Thousand Miles
Ride, which strengthened bilateral relations between the great City of Port Angeles and Taiwan.
In that regard, I would like to share an upcoming event hosted by New Taipei City and
co-organized by the Asian Pacific Education & Cultural Foundation (APEC). The program is
named as the Youth Ambassadors Biker Program— Cycling around New Taipei City Touring and
Culture Exchange Hosting Program.
This event provides a great opportunity for high school students from State of Washington to
discover and experience the unique natural and cultural environment offered by New Taipei City.
Therefore, I would like to seek your assistance in encouraging students from Port Angeles School
District to participate in this exchange program.
Ms. Felicity Wang (felicity(a),apec-foundation.M) and Mr. James Robinson
ames.r(i),apee-found,tioii.org) from APEC are kindly requesting a meeting with you and present
the program, if you are available.
Your favorable consideration and advice is highly appreciated and well anticipated. Enclosed
please find information of the aforementioned project.
Sincerely yours
Andy Chin

Youth Ambassadors Biker Program - Cycling around New'Taiipel City
Touring and Culture Exchange Hosting Program
A. Schedule: Jul 14th—July 31^` 2014
B. The Intention and Origin of the program:
1. 1"he Latest Event:There was the 2013 Tour of Taiwan Biking Camp Held by New Taipei City and
Rotary International District 3480/3500 Youth Exchange Committee from July 16 to July 27.
There were 10 local high school students along with 20 international students from 14 countries.
They experienced the cultural activities and enjoyed the beautiful sceneries in Taiwan.
2. Abound Landscapes and VarioumMUVti-CUXtmmes:
New Taipei City is the most populous city of Taiwan, including a substantial stretch of the
island's northern coastline and surrounds the Taipei Basin.
New Taipei City has a variety of landscapes and beautiful coast lines with famous natural parks
' and hot springs make New Taipei City abundant in tourism resource. This City is rich in cultural
resources. It's a major cultural county that hosts a rich variety of cultural activities. The New
Taipei City government has established museums of tea culture, pottery and ceramics, and
other sites to help preserve the memory of the common history and culture.
The meeting ground of the rivers stretches away in a scene of grandeur as the seashore, its
terrain carved out by the hand of time, faces off with the |ovv mountains standing peacefully in
the distance of New Taipei City. Taiwan has been known as the "kingdom of bicycle", especially
in New Taipei Oty.
3. Sustainable Developmmemt, Low Carbon and Einvironmmenta8 Protection:
VVedo our best to "create asus1ainab|c, environmenta|'friend|\( healthy and comfortable
environment" and to "establish a cultural, ecological interconnected and international campus"
through "environmental policy," "space transformation," "environmental education," and "life
practice. New Taipei City is the first city in Taiwan to establish large-scale manmade wetlands
has set a goal of 300 hectares and assists schools to develop environmental education.
There are many achievements in sustainable and environmental education in schools.
New Taipei has been building scenic bridges and bikeways for pedestrian and bicycle use.
^ 4. Multi-UnternatioriaUEdmcation:
New Taipei City's number of new residents has ranked the highest in the country.
^
We promote the multi-culture education not only for new inhabitants but also original citizens.
In primary schools, we built English Wonderland in rural school districts and recruit foreign
English-speaking teachers to run Campus or Online learning for students and teachers. In high
schools, we courage them to make school to foreign school education and cultural exchanges.
The International Volunteer programs have been held for many years and make students
experience international language and different cultural experiences.
S. Plenty Bike LaineSwith Professional Facilities:
The bikeways connect the wonderful scenery of mountains and the water, as well as spots full
of culture with metro and rail transportation. The cycling routes include a great variety of
amazing scenery, making this a unique extreme cycling challenge. These sports activities not
only challenge one's stamina but also one's strength.
C. Purposes:
1. To present the features and accomplishments of Characteristic Schools and schools'facilities
and professional human resources from communities and to enrich the content ofinternational
from the integration of the performances of education, environment, tourism, and economic
development.
l To extend interactive and collaborative opportunities between municipal high schools' students
