Port Angeles City Council,
I am mystified at the reasoning behind spending$35,000 to pay someone from outside
our community to assess why people do not stay in Port Angeles to shop. Didn't you
spend a gross amount of money several years ago to do the very thing you are attempting
now? I believe that money and time resulted in fresh paint?
I know you could save money by"asking"any existing business owner what the issues
are.
My observations at no cost:
#1 Economy. I know, personally I am having trouble meeting my basic needs, let
alone fun things from Fiddle Heads or Cottage Queen.
#2 Gas prices. I spend$3.94 a gallon to get to work, there is little left over for
luxuries.
#3 Polarized leaders. We have three separate groups in our community that rarely
agree let alone work together:
Chamber of Commerce
City of Port Angeles
Port Angeles Downtown Association
It is my belief if all three would come together we could have a dynamic
community. Spend the money on mediation.
#4 Internet. Why should anyone buy a book, bike, clothing, fishing gear at twice
the price? In my business, people would come, we would educate as to the
best product, quote our price and then they would come in boasting how they got
the best for sometimes less than I could purchase wholesale.
I believe this is a good place to begin, look around, talk to locals!and save `our' money.
At are economic time, where money is tight it is difficult to read in the paper that more
money than the average population of Port Angeles make in a year is being spent on a
`study'.This is irresponsible spending, a prime example of how out of touch our elected
leaders are.
