Subject: 23rd meeting
Mike
I don't know what the format of the pool district meetings are( if the public is allowed to ask questions,
or what infor will be available). The only information I have seen is in the PDN, so will proceed from
there.I go to the pool at least 4 times a week, and know from conversations, that people are really
concerned about the YMCA running the pool.I am sure you have been overwhelmed by concern from the
public. The public voted to not only keep the pool open, but for it to remain the same. There has not
been much public comment from the board to calm those fears. I personally done have a basic problem
with the Y, but many concerns. I do understand the money aspect, but many do not, nor do they care.
The expected the pool district board to run the pool(hiring a manager, and keeping staff and policies the
same)
Questions I hope to see answered
1. who at the Y has run a swimming pool
21 hope that what I have read in the paper is true, that rehiring staff is all a background check thing.
3. It sounds like the Y manager thinks he can put an add in the paper, and qualified will be flocking to
the door. Not so there were times last year when pool hours were cut because there was not enough
qualified staff. things are now on the upswing, and people have put there time, money and effort.into
qualifying to become guards.
4. Our pool goes by Red Cross Standards(including lessons). It sound like the Y will not be using those,
but their own? What is that anyway? All employees will have to go through recertification, which takes
certified trainers, and much time. My research into this matter so far, indicates to me that the Y
standards are far below that of the Red Cross.-We put our lives, and chiidrens, in the hands of these
people this is serious stuff. Therefore, why cant the Y use these Red Cross standards?
5. If the city is Nappy with the current pool manager(which I don't know one way or another) why is she
not being offered a comparable salary to stay. This is a huge responsibility with job description and
q.:alif cations to match. It is so many ways of wrong that this:acme^ has moved her family and life to
PA just to be dumped. I know she is very popular with the public, and I just think we are a better
community than that.
6 I have much more going through my head, but look forward to learning more on Tuesday. I am cc C
kid, as she is the only other member that has said anything,or seems concerned about informing the
public.
Thanks Jan Bock
p.s. I hope I can speak to you soon about things going on at the Humane Society. After serving on that
board for 10 years, I am very concerned, and think things are more that wrongheaded, but that is for
another day.
