Port Angeles City Councilmembers
Dear Councilmembers:
Unfortunately other commitments kept me from your debate about fluoride earlier this week. I
hope they were fruitful.
About 12 years ago, I was pleased to be part of the dialog in the City Council when fluoridation
was approved. As I recall 25 dentists and 75 local doctors supported the idea. I suspect that in the
main, those in these professions still do.
As a youngster growing up in suburban Philadelphia, fluoride was not available. Each Fall, I
took my cavities to the dentist and endured the drilling without any pain reliever. Particularly for a kid,
it was brutal.
Today parents can provide fluoride daily for their families. I hope they do, but do we really
believe that this is remotely possible since many homes have single parents these days? Later,
expensive trips to the dentist are guaranteed.
I sincerely hope you will vote to continue providing fluoride in the public water supply. Thank
you.
Yours truly,
Glenn Wiggins
