Dear Mayor Patrick Downie:
It is with great pride that I present this document to you as a summary of the work
my team has done and continues to do in order to achieve our City's "Vision 2020."
Over the past four years, City of Spokane employees have done amazing things. We
have become safer through innovative solutions, smarter through increased
accountability to the community, and stronger through better alignment to our
community's priorities.
In ►ny first term, Spokane has noticeably become a safer place as indicated in the
over 19 percent drop in crime since 2012. As a municipal entity, we are financially
stronger than we've ever been as shown by solidifying an AA credit rating through
adherence to key budget principles and maintaining appropriate reserves. And every
day our community leadership is working to make sure neighborhoods, parks, school
systems, and professional environments are managed smarter. The result is that life
here in the "City of Choice" is enjoyable for all of us.
As we continue down the path paved in Vision 2020, we see the impact on the quality
of life through citizen engagement. Impacts like:
Voters approved the $64 million investment in Riverfront Park and we have
since developed the master plan and construction is underway.
We have served 86% more homeless families since 2012 through
coordinated homeless family intake program without increasing
expenditures.
Partnered to involve more than 17,000 volunteers who logged 78,000 hours
at 201 events during Spokane Gives Week.
These are just some of the things we've achieved but most importantly we'll achieve
a greater level of trust in our community by continuing to prove ourselves to be a
municipal government that works to understand and meet both the needs and wants
of its customers.
Thank you for your continued support as we become a safer, stronger and smarter
Spokane.
Sincerely,
David A. ondon
