To Whom It May Concern:
I am requesting an extension to my residential remodel and electrical permits (both #04-577) due to
delays caused by unforeseen conditions of both the structural integrity and electrical Wlring of my
house. After receIving the permit (remodel and electrical) in July 2004, I began demolition of the
basement area when I wscovered that most existing wiring had be "pieced" together leaving several
dozen fl.ymg splices in the ceilings and walls. Earlier that year, I had a new electrical panel (permit
#04-436) mstalled by Olympic Electric and, during the illspection, Alan Oman and I wscussed the
condition of the exposed Wlring. I told him I was intending to remodel the basement at which time I
would correct problems with the electrical wtring. He was good Wlth that. Alan and I spoke about the
condition of the wiring again in spring of 2005 just as the fmal inspection for the panel was being
done and he was aware of the work I was doing.
Durmg the demolition I also discovered that there was some water damage to some of the exterior
walls near the foundation that had resulted in rot in the sole plate and up several studs. In the fall of
2004 I was m the process of fIxing the damaged areas when I discovered that moisture was entering
the west and north walls during wmdy storms. I did have a rough opening inspection done in
November 2004 for openings that were cut into the foundation for a window and a door.
I contillued working on the remodel during the winter of 2004/2005 and had a rough framing
inspection done in April of 2005. At this point, I needed to figure out how to stop water from
gettmg into the house. I had a new roof put on in March 2005 and then began working on prepping
the stucco ex tenor of the house for pamting during the summer, since the water seemed to be
commg in through cracks in the stucco. The work to properly prepare the stucco, seal the cracks with
elastomeric caulkmg, and apply elastomenc pamt took the better part of the spring and summer.
The long and short of it is that I ran into problems that needed to be solved in order for the project
to be done correctly and this has thrown me off the inspection tlmeline. I have almost completed the
rough in electrical and have been able to correct problems with electrical system. I am planning on
doing the plumbing work in November. I have to wait until the plumbing work is completed before
building the last interior none-bearing wall due to some under-floor work for the plumbing. That
wall will have two switch boxes in it to finish the rough in electrical. At that point, the rough in
electrical and plumbing will can be inspected, I'm hoping for January 2006.
Sorry for being long wmded, but I just wanted to say it how it is and let you know that I have been
pluggmg along with the project despite some necessary diversions. Please call if you have questions

This letter is to request that my bwlding permit be remstated so I can continue with my remodel
plans. I have been working continually working on the project for about two years and have
struggled to keep the time lines for mspections due to numerous problems encountenng as I work
on the 55+ year old house. These problems have reqU11'ed me to complete more than planned to
ensure the integnty of the infrastructure of the house. We also had a mmor house fIre (stove top
caught fIre) that required that I clean up and fIx some extensive smoke damage. I had an electncal
inspection last spring but was told on 10/23/06 that my permit was expired due to a time lapse in the
inspection process. I believe that I am neanng the end of the required mspections for the project and
plan on fmishing the sheetrock and interior painting this winter. Thanks for you time.
