Street Port Angeles, W A 98362 The Department of Community Development Building Division has received your letter and has completed a visual inspection of the property on the north side of Nancy Lane, which is west of Golf Course rather than east. The City Building Division is responsible for the abatement of public nuisances such as weeds. The City's current Public Nuisance Ordinance does not allow the growing, maintaining, permitting or allowing of any weed, vegetable or horticultural growth in excess of 12 inches average length. The City Inspector has found that the lot in question has juniper type plants and does not meet the requirements for mowing or the abatement of such as defined by the City Ordinance. It appears that someone has sprayed a portion of the area to kill these plants, they therefore have turned brown and appear to be dead. We will send a letter to the property owner and request that the material that appears to be dead be removed. If we can be of further assistance, please contact me at City Hall or Call 417-4816. September 21, 2001 Christine M Machon 1826 East Fifth Street Port Angeles WA 98362 City of Port Angeles Street Maintenance 321 East Fifth Street Port Angeles, WA 98362 To Whom It May Concern: Several months ago, at the request of my father, I called the City to ask if they could please mow a strip of greenbelt on Nancy Lane, which is off of Golf Course Rd. The gentleman said he would come up a take a look. I spoke to him again and he said the Ci ty could do some mowing. This never happened. Due to the fact that this is such a fire hazard, my father age 76 tried doing this himself. The neighbor's father, who is 75, has also been trying to make this area safe. I know the City requires property owners to mow their vacant lots or the City will do it for you and charge you. This happened years ago when my aunt and uncle owned a lot at Cresthaven and lived in California. The City had this lot mowed and the charge was quite a sum. This area is a green belt that starts at Golf Course Rd and extends east about a half a block until it reaches a duplex. This green belt and duplex is owned by Eva McNutt. It is a rental and she does not live there. The neighbors in the past have had discussion with the owners and begged them to do something about this fire hazard, but they have done nothing. I I m the new gal on the block and the neighbors both to the east and west of me are very concerned. I was impressed by the prompt response from the Fire Department, when they were called by an unknown neighbor who saw smoke and probably thought the grass was on fire. Li ttle Grandpa to the east had thrown a couple of sticks into their webber and the Fire Department hosed down the webber. Would the City of Port Angeles please request the owner to clean up their green belt in a certain period of time or give them notice that the City will have this area mowed?
