Dear City Council of Port Angeles,
I am writing in support of the Feiro Marine Life Center and the Olympic Coast
National Marine Sanctuary, in their efforts to locate a new Marine Discovery
Center at the current site of the Feiro Marine Life Center. Both organizations
have a need for growth in providing visitor services and marine education. City
Pier is an excellent site for an expanded facility that can house exhibit and
educational space for both organizations.
This can enhance not only the opportunities for tourists to the North Olympic
Peninsula, but also can provide educational opportunities for local schools and
community groups, as well as continuing the legacy of the connection between
Peninsula College and the Marine Life Center, because Art Feiro was a faculty
member for many years.
The two organization brought in 33,000 visitors in 2015 and educated 3200
students. I understand that the 35 year old facility can no longer provide enough
room for expanded educational offerings.
I urge you to support this project.
Sincerely,
Kate Reaey
