Waterfront Transportation Improvement Project (WTIP) Update
Nathan West reported that, as a result of comments from PA Forward members regarding the Trail
width, design drawings have been changed to provide a 12' trail with additional T grass strips on
both sides of the Trail. This change resulted in changes to other design elements. Two other items
of the design are still pending decisions: trail marker design and the sponsorship memorial
concept.
Kaj Ahlburg asked what the added cost for those items would be? Mr. West indicated that each
item would increase the budget by approximately $6,000. Both items have been placed on hold
for the immediate future.
Work will begin soon on mitigation work required by US ACOE, including moving the whale
bone sculpture and planting along the west side of the site. It is anticipated that the project will go
to bid in April. A June start date is anticipated for construction.
George Bergner provided an update on bicycle tourism and requested a letter of support from the
committee for the PA Likes Bikes event planned for this year. Discussion followed with Kaj
Ahlburg moving to recommend approval of a letter. The motion was seconded by Pat Downie
and passed unanimously.
Chair Kidd brought up the Committee's membership and stated that the Clallam County Historical
Society had requested a seat on the Committee. A letter from the Historical Society requesting
adding a seated member and recommending Charlie Smith as that representative was passed out to
the group. Discussion followed.
