Port Angeles City Council
Attention: Mayor Sissi Bruch

Port Angeles, WA, 98362 December 6, 2019
Dear Mayor Bruch,
This letter is written on behalf of our American Legion Riders organization at Post 103 in Punta Gorda
Florida. Our mission is to support Veterans, Veteran families, and our Community by raising funds for
children's hospitals, schools, Veterans homes, severely wounded service members and scholarships.
At our December general meeting, one of our members read a short article about your request to the
city of Port Angeles, Washington to remove the soldier symbols from the gate protecting your
Veteran's Memorial Park. The article indicated you and others were offended by the soldiers and
guns depicted on the iron fence, and were pursuing removal and replacement of these figures with
less offensive symbols.
Our group of veteran riders cannot understand the purpose behind your actions. We all very clearly
understand the rights and freedoms we Americans have to express ourselves. We also know,
however, that deadly threats against us are as real today as they have been throughout history, and
without soldiers and guns, these cherished rights and freedoms would not be enjoyed by Americans
today.
Please reconsider your position, and respect the sacrifice, blood and tears that our soldiers with guns
have invested in this great country. We believe such symbols stand as a proud reminder of the
courageous deeds done daily by our armed forces and the responsibility all citizens have to realize
and remember what it takes to be free.
Respectfully yours,
The Riders of Post 103
