MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ($'

THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this 1 st day of October, 2007 by and between the Port
Angeles Police Department, hereinafter referred to as P APD and the CLALLAM COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE, hereinafter referred to as CCSO.
IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS AGREEMENT to allow for the CCSO to compensate on an annual
basis P APD for the provision of police K -9 services.
WITNESS TO:
WHEREAS, the Port Angeles Police Department and the Clallam County Sheriff's Office
can better protect life and property of the public they serve by cooperating in the use of trained K-9
personnel and equipment; and
WHEREAS, the CCSO does not have trained law enforcement K-9 personnel nor trained
canines as part of the Sheriff's Department; and
WHEREAS, the Port Angeles Police Department does have trained law enforcement K-9
personnel and canines; and
NOW THEREFORE, the Port Angeles Police Department, acting by and through the Chief
of Police, Port Angeles, Washington, and the Clallam County Sheriff's Office, acting by and through
the Clallam County Sheriff, agree as follows:
A. THE PORT ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT:
1.
Upon the happening, or in anticipation of an event, may provide, upon request ofthe
Clallam County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement K -9 teams in the form of a trained
K-9 handler and trained K-9 dog when such a resource is available and not needed
for the protection of life and property by P APD.

B. THE CLALLAM COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
1. Agrees to pay to the Port Angeles Police Department, in exchange for the provision
of law enforcement K-9 services, the sum of Three Thousand Five Hundred Dollars
($3,500.00) per year.

C. THE PORT ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE CLALLAM COUNTY
SHERIFF'S OFFICE MUTUALLY AGREE:
1. To assume the cost of salaries, food, gasoline and other incidental expenses oftheir
respective personnel involved in the event requiring K-9 services.
2. That during all such K-9 incidents CCSO supervisory personnel will defer to the
knowledge, training, and experience of the P APD handler in regards to K-9
applications.
3. During the performance of this agreement, the cooperators agree to abide by the
terms of Executive Order 11246 on nondiscrimination and RCW 49.60.030 and will
not discriminate against any person because of race, color, religion, sex, national
origin or other protected status.
4. That this agreement shall be effective upon the date first recited above and shall
remain in effect for a five-year period, subject to renewal or revision at the end of that
period.
5. That this Memorandum of Understanding may be terminated at any time by either
party, such termination to be made in writing.
