RE:
ma , Request to Expand M
xpar r ,torium on Rental
Evictions
i Dear Honorable Governor I n l 'e:
We want;to sincerely thank you for your decision on March 18,2,020 to order a moratoriumon rental
evictions throughout the State ofWashington during the 1 -1 9 outbreak, At this time, we are
respectfully requesting, aan expansion of that moratorium to provide crucial ongoing assistance to
families, individuals, and suanall businesses. The City is requesting nuestinn that you ex and this proclamation to
i f /„ include,
Prohibition of eviction by commercial, landlords
Prohibition of accumulation of fees/interest charges b ^resi erntiaal/ca m nn rcial landlords
Require long-term Payment plaann options beyond the moratorium for past due amounts
'Ibe City agrees that prevention of losing one's honne through residential eviction should be our highest
priority. However, we are greatly concerned with the potential financial burden these tenants face the
day the moratorium is liked. additional fees and interest accumulated during the C "I b-l'
emergency will present aan a verwvheirning challenge the date the proclamation empires. The situation
faced by residential households employed by our snnall businesses will only be exacerbated if
businesses close their doors due to eviction,
t
An end to a moratorium will not result in iannnnnediate cashflowv to residents and businesses. please assist
the City of Port Angelei and local governments throughout our State to avert an eviction cliffwwhich
Could arrive shortly after your important proclamation ends,
Thank you for your consideration ofthese important keys to proclamation expansion,. We urge you to
f take swift auction and we stand by your ongoing leadership.
